     Travaillant majoritairement avec une pioche et une pelle, terrasser demandait de la force et une grande endurance physique. De nombreux terrassiers avaient aussi travaillé en tant qu’ouvriers dans les champs et, sans aucun doute, ils étaient habitués aux travaux difficiles et épuisants.      Plus récemment, le Channel Tunnel Rail Link — la première ligne de chemin de fer majeure depuis plus de 100 ans, maintenant connue comme High Speed 1 — a temporairement réssuscité les navvys ferroviaires.
