- (1859) De l’anglais Paleozoic, mot forgé en 1840 par le géologue britannique John Phillips [1] du grec ancien, mot savant composé de παλαιός, palaïos (« vieux ») et de ζωικός, zôikós (« d’animal »), littéralement « des vieux animaux » → voir cénozoïque.
