(Nom commun 1) (1862) Origine inconnue. Dans le sens « d'abri », peut-être du français de Louisiane chabane, du français cabane, influencé par le mot shebeen, « bar clandestin », du gaélique irlandais síbín (« whiskey de contrebande »).
